Say hello to Stephen Gire (He/him)! Stephen is a virologist by training and currently the chief scientific officer for a diagnostic startup in the USA!
What kind of scientist are you?
I’m a virologist by training and now I’m the Chief Scientific Officer of a women’s health diagnostic startup.
What made you want to become a scientist?
I wanted to make a measurable impact on human disease.
What makes you a #UniqueScientist?
I’m a big ‘ol muscle gay <3
What’s something cool you do outside of work?
I used to be a chef, I’m a photographer and artist. I’ve got tatts and work out a lot. I once had an Ebola scare in Africa when working on implementing diagnostics during the 2014 outbreak in west Africa.
If you had one wish and could change anything in science, what would it be?
That more research and funding was devoted to women’s health.
Who has inspired you the most in your journey to where you are now?
Kate Rubins. She’s a scientist and astronaut, and has been a mentor and friend and inspired me to change the world through science.
Let’s end on a high note! What’s something you’ve done this week that you’re proud of?
I set up our new lab space after closing our series A financing. It’s lots of work but we’re excited to get the science underway!
